Lakeshore Legal Aid - Director of Compliance - Metro Detroit

Organization Overview:

Lakeshore Legal Aid serves low-income people, seniors, and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in a holistic manner to address clients’ legal issues and improve our communities. Lakeshore provides free direct legal representation in southeast Michigan and the thumb and client intake, advice, and brief legal services throughout Michigan via our attorney-staffed hotline. Our practice areas include housing, family, consumer, elder, education, and public benefits law.

Position Overview:

The Director of Compliance is responsible for determining the grant requirements for each grant awarded to the program, oversee the collection of all required information by the grants, ensuring accuracy of data, compliance with grant assurances, and oversee reporting of the required information to each grant provider in a timely manner. The Director of Compliance will work closely with all aspects of the organization and will treat clients, coworkers, and others with dignity and respect.

General Task Areas:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan preferred
  • Prior civil legal aid experience at an LSC funded legal aid program or prior grant management experience at a non-profit organization preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in the area of poverty law and working with low- income individuals. Able to be empathetic and understand the diverse clients of the poverty community.
  • Strong proactive and creative problem-solving skills
  • Experience with multiple technologies including Justice Server and/or Salesforce strongly preferred; Comfort with technology and data required.
  • Dependable transportation for travel to meetings and trainings.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to changing compliance demands.
  • Ability to exercise discretion when processing confidential information.
  • Demonstrate strong research and organization skills, the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, and well-developed analytical and computer skills.

Qualifications:

  • Ensure compliance with funding requirements;
  • Coordinate with the Data analyst to manage data and review of data for accuracy, completeness;
  • Coordinate data collection procedures to ensure database integrity and consistency;
  • Involvement in data collection and other outputs of the program as necessary to meet the program’s outcomes;
  • Train staff in compliance requirements of our funders including ongoing contact with our staff regarding continued compliance standards and orientation to all new staff on grant requirements;
  • Participation in grant application, reporting, and assessment;
  • Update manuals, policies and resource materials;
  • Participate in bi-weekly development meetings;
  • Organize, plan, prioritize, meet deadlines, and work under pressure;
  • Participate in training as appropriate and required by a supervisor;
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by the COO, CEO or designee.

Salary

Annual starting salary ranges from $85,000 and is commensurate with qualifications, and includes excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance/AD&D, short-term and long-term disability, retirement plan, and paid time off.
