Elder Law of
Michigan Offers Consumer Fraud Prevention Project and a New Hotline for Assistance
for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Older Adults
In a project funded by the AARP Foundation, Elder Law of
Michigan is urging consumers to become better educated about consumer fraud and
to help others identify fraudulent practices.. Throughout this year, ELM will
use volunteers to reach out to more than 100,000 known and potential victims of
telemarketing and other types of fraud. Volunteers will contact older adults
across the country to warn them about telephone, mail, and internet scams and
follow up with prevention tips and information.
In addition, ELM is encouraging anyone who is aware of a suspicious or
fraudulent practice to contact them at info@elderslaw.org.
ELM is also offering a new hotline for Gay, Lesbian,
Bisexual and Transgender adults to deal with the special legal problems members
of these communities might encounter including issues regarding cohabitation
and estate planning. There are no age or
income restrictions to use the service and
it is free of charge. The hotline number is 1-877-GLBT-LAW.
