New Michigan Elder Justice Coalition Setting Goals

Document Actions
by Alison Hirschel, MPLP Elder Law Attorney

The Michigan Elder Justice Coalition seeks to use coordinated statewide educational activities, media briefings, and information dissemination and advocacy to:
  • Increase public awareness of elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of older adults;
  • Increase awareness and public support for the key recommendations of the 2006 Elder Abuse Task Force to create a comprehensive system to address elder justice issues;
  • Monitor and engage in legislative and administrative education and advocacy efforts on issues related to elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation.
The Coalition will be developing a data base of experts, speakers, and individuals willing to serve on workgroups related to elder justice issues. To sign up, you may go to the website. That website will also contain updates and information about the CoalitionÂ’s activities and already includes many useful links and information. Currently, Elder Law of Michigan is seeking grants and in-kind support to launch a statewide elder abuse awareness campaign.
