MPLP Welcomes Angela Tripp
Angela Tripp is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, and of Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, MA. After graduating from law school, she worked for two years at Prison Legal Services of Michigan, Inc. as a staff attorney, helping to enforce the settlement agreements in the class action lawsuit Cain v. MDOC. With the American Friends Service Committee’s Michigan Criminal Justice Program, she co-authored a report, “Tolerating Failure: the State of Health Care and Mental Health Care Delivery in the Michigan Department of Corrections.”
In 2005, Angela joined Legal Services of South Central Michigan as a staff attorney in the Lansing office. There, she litigated cases in several areas, including family law, representing domestic violence survivors in divorce, custody, personal protection order, and immigration cases; in landlord/tenant law, protecting and enforcing the rights of tenants living in subsidized or sub-standard housing; in consumer law, including representing clients in foreclosure-related actions, and represented clients in hearings and appeals concerning public benefits matters. While in Lansing, she also became an active participant in many community groups and task forces coordinating services to the community.
She took on a supervisory role in Lansing in 2007 and spent three years as a co-manager of that office, handling administrative tasks while continuing to litigate cases and supervise the terrific attorneys, staff, and law students who provide legal advice and representation to impoverished clients living in Ingham, Clinton, Eaton, Shiawassee, Barry, and Livingston counties.
In her new role at MPLP, Angela will act as co-managing Attorney of that office along with Lorray Brown. In this role, she will manage certain technology projects, and handle various administrative aspects of the MPLP office and the Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Project. She also serves as one of the three coordinators of the Statewide Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Coalition, providing outreach to Michigan’s low to moderate income families so they can maximize the benefits of all available tax credits and refunds using tools such as ICAN E-file.
Angela can be reached at her MPLP office, 220 E. Huron Street, Suite 600A, Ann Arbor, MI 48104; (734) 998-6100 x 152; or by email at trippa@lsscm.org.
