Technological Abuses in Domestic Violence Cases: Resources
The most recent edition of the ABA Commission on Domestic Violence eNewsletter is devoted to the area of technology uses and abuses in domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking cases. The newsletter includes several articles that discuss ways in which batterers use spyware, GPS monitoring and internet “spoofing” to aid them in monitoring their victims. The articles also discuss techniques to response to such technological abuses.
Specifically, Guilherme Roschke, a staff attorney with the commission and former Skadden fellow at the Electronic Privacy Information Center, writes about the legal implications of electronic surveillance in his article "Identity Abuse: Identity Theft and Impersonation." He explores the intersections between domestic violence and identity theft, outlining the ways in which clients and lawyers can monitor, document and remedy specific acts of identity theft perpetrated by abusers.
