Elder Law of Michigan Introduces New Benefits Enrollment Center
Elder Law of Michigan (ELM) is offering older adults and people with disabilities a new service at its Benefits Enrollment Center. These individuals can call the Legal Hotline for Michigan Seniors to learn if there are programs and services that might ease their financial situation.
Clients who want a benefits screen can call the Legal Hotline to speak with a benefits counselor. ELM will screen for a variety of programs including: tax credit assistance, food assistance, help paying medical premiums and prescription drugs, utility payment programs, and home improvement services. Once a caller has been screened, the staff can provide limited assistance with the benefits application process.
Individuals, community service groups, attorneys, social workers and others that assist older adults and persons with disabilities can also perform the screening themselves at www.elderlawofmi.org/legalhotline. To request further information regarding the on line screening tool or to speak with a Benefits Counselor, call (800) 347-5297.
