The full-time, temporary position is expected to last 9-12 months from the date of hire.

The Michigan Legal Help Program (MLHP) helps people who have to handle simple civil legal problems without a lawyer. One primary product of the MLHP is MichiganLegalHelp.org, an interactive, statewide website that provides legal information and referrals to self-represented litigants. Legal information includes Articles, Common Questions, procedural instructions, and Do-It-Yourself tools that enable litigants to complete legal forms. The website also contains jurisdiction- and topic-specific referrals to legal services offices, lawyer referral services, and community organizations. MLHP supports a Spanish language version of the site at AyudaLegaldeMichigan.org, and provides live chat assistance (LiveHelp) for all web visitors between 11am – 3pm weekdays. The Michigan Legal Help Program also opens and supports affiliated Self-Help Centers around the state, where litigants can use the website on public computers and get additional help and legal information assistance from trained Navigators.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Administrative Assistant’s duties related to the Michigan Legal Help (MLH) Program include (but are not limited to): general administrative office tasks; helping to distribute promotional materials for the MLH site, including managing requests for materials and ordering additional materials when needed; posting content (with proper formatting) onto the MLH website and other websites; providing front-line desktop support to staff of 15 (we will provide adequate training); assisting in the management of LiveHelp, including managing student schedules, assisting with training of law student volunteers, taking LiveHelp shifts, supervising law students while on LiveHelp, and helping with LiveHelp data collection; testing of automated document interviews on LawHelp Interactive, and assisting with grant reporting, data collection, and data analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be skilled in use of Microsoft programs (namely Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher), Google Drive, and be comfortable using technology generally. Applicants must possess excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills as well as a commitment to providing legal information and assistance to individuals in poverty. Applicants must have excellent attention to detail, great time management skills, and an ability to be flexible while working on multiple projects at once.

BENEFITS: This is a full-time, nine- to twelve-month contract position. Salary range is $30,000 to $35,000 based on years of relevant experience.

MLHP is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage minorities, women and persons with disabilities to apply.
