STAFF ATTORNEY

    Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) has an opening for a staff attorney in the Washtenaw County office.

    LSSCM provides free legal services to very low income and senior persons in 13 counties in south-central Michigan. LSSCM also provides statewide legal services through two programs – Farmworker Legal Services, which provides services to migrant and seasonal agricultural workers; and the Michigan Poverty Law Program, which provides state support services to all the local legal aid and legal services programs in the state. LSSCM has a full time staff of about 60 people in eight offices.

    The staff attorney will do service and impact work, primarily in housing, consumer, and public benefits cases. Services will target survivors of domestic violence and their families and will be coordinated with the family law work of the Family Law Project.

    Applicants should be licensed to practice law in Michigan or be eligible to take the bar examination at the next opportunity, and should demonstrate a commitment to the low income community. Salary is from $37,000, depending on experience. Unionized program; excellent fringe benefits. Ability to speak Spanish highly desired.
