Staff Attorney

 

 Lakeshore Legal Aid (Lakeshore) has an opening for a staff attorney in its Port Huron office. 

 
Lakeshore is a non profit legal aid program that provides free legal services to very low income and senior persons age 60-plus in sixteen counties in Southeastern and Eastern Michigan.  Lakeshore also operates an attorney staffed hotline (CALL) which provides advice and brief legal services to clients in 68 counties throughout Michigan.

 

The staff attorney will provide legal services to seniors and persons in poverty in St. Clair, Sanilac, and Huron Counties primarily in the areas of housing, family and consumer law.  The position will involve both litigation and transactional duties. The person accepting this position will work with both family and senior law clients.   Applicants should be comfortable working with seniors with a passion for this type of work highly desirable.   This job requires some multi-county travel. 

 

Applicants should be licensed to practice law in Michigan or be eligible to take the July, 2008 bar examination and able to practice pursuant to MCR 8.120.  Applicants should also be able to demonstrate commitment to the low income community.  Salary is dependent on experience with excellent fringe benefits.
