Supervising Attorney - Battle Creek - Legal Services of South Central Michigan

Job Type: Legal Services

SUPERVISING ATTORNEY

Legal Services of South Central Michigan (LSSCM) has an opening for a Supervising Attorney in its Battle Creek office.

LSSCM provides free legal services to very low income and senior persons in 13 counties in south central Michigan. LSSCM also provides statewide legal services through two programs, Farmworker Legal Services, which provides services to migrant and seasonal agricultural workers; and the Michigan Poverty Law Program, which provides state support services to all 10 70 people in eight offices.

The Supervising Attorney will assist the Managing Attorney in supervising the legal work of staff attorneys and paralegals in the Battle Creek office. The Battle Creek office serves Calhoun and Branch counties for low income individuals and Calhoun, Branch, Barry and St. Joseph for seniors. The Battle Creek office has 10 full time staff and a few part time staff. The casework will include both impact and service work, primarily in family law, housing law and public benefits.

Applicants should be licensed to practice law in Michigan, should have experience in handling a poverty law caseload, and should demonstrate a commitment to the low-income community. Because this is a management position, supervisory experience is preferred. Three years legal experience is required; five years experience is preferred. Salary is $40,000, depending on experience.

LSSCM is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage minority, handicapped persons and women to apply.
