Migrant Legal Aid of Grand Rapids, Michigan a law firm for low-income people in Michigan is currently accepting applications for the position of Immigration Attorney.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Active membership in the Michigan State Bar
- Administrative experience in immigration matters before USCIS and EOIR
- Litigation experience in State or Federal Court and in immigration law proceedings;
- Demonstrated knowledge of immigration law, including relief available under VAWA & U and T-visas;
- Ability to deal with people tactfully and effectively;
- Demonstrated commitment to serving immigrant communities;
- Bilingual in another language: Spanish required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Provide direct legal services to victims of domestic violence with remedies under VAWA or for U-visas and to victims of human traficking;
- Develop appropriate outreach materials and disseminate information about rights and benefits available to torture, domestic violence and human trafficking survivors;
- Establish and nurture relationships with partner organizations, CBOs & faith-based groups;
- Outreach to the communities where torture, domestic violence and human trafficking victims are found;
- Conduct domestic violence (VAWA) training to CBO’s, community groups, clients councils and DPSS;
- Work with paralegal in the provision of services and outreach to survivors;
- Establish direct referral mechanisms with partner agencies and community groups and implement partner meetings to assure appropriate and efficient coverage of services.
