Lakeshore Legal Aid strives to serve its clients in a holistic manner to address clients’ legal issues and improve our communities. LLA provides free legal assistance in 44 counties in Michigan through our offices located in Detroit, Pontiac, Southfield, Dearborn, Warren, Riverview, Mt. Clemens, Port Huron, and Caro. Our work includes housing, family, consumer, and public benefits law.

Position overview:

Lakeshore Legal Aid’s Counsel and Advocacy Law Line (CALL), a legal aid hotline, is currently seeking Hotline Attorneys. Our office is in Southfield, Michigan. We are hiring part time positions between 16 — 28 hours per week. The position offers an excellent learning experience with diverse legal subject matters, a unique working environment, rewarding and meaningful work. The shifts available include days and evenings. This opportunity is excellent for a solo practitioner or someone looking to supplement their income.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience serving low-income individuals and client groups on housing, public benefits, family law, etc. with sensitivity to those in crisis is preferred.
  • The candidate will have a demonstrated passion and commitment to public interest law.
  • The candidate will have strong research and organizational skills, the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in-writing, and well-developed analytical and computer skills.
  • The candidate will have the ability to handle a high call volume, ability to problem-solve, and patience/sensitivity to handle people in crisis.
  • English, Spanish and Arabic speaking attorneys are encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be admitted to the State Bar of Michigan.
