LSEM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit civil law firm. We are the front line provider of accessible legal assistance in our service area. We continue to serve 14 mid-Michigan counties, including Genesee County. Flint is our largest office, and it houses our administrative staff. We also have satellite offices in Saginaw and Port Huron. Our mission is to use advocacy to address the causes and effects of poverty. We envision communities where individuals have affordable access to resources to meet their justice needs and can pursue their legal rights through competent advocacy.

Responsibilities

Support most aspects of accounting management (billing, tax forms, reporting etc.)

Assist in the formulation on internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices

Assist in the preparation of financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements

Knowledge of Bank and Account reconciliations

Issue timely and complete Financial Statements

Manage journal entries, invoices etc. and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing

Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts

Participate in preparation of the annual audit

Help in development of reports for management or regulatory bodies

Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions

Consult with management and provide input regarding strategic initiatives and cost savings efforts Supervise all accounting staff

Responsible for payroll functions and any related HR functions

Qualifications

4 years of accounting management experience

Proven experience as controller or other similar position

Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial reporting, audit requirements and internal controls)

Understanding of data analysis and forecasting

Experience with federal grants, federal reporting formats, restrictions, and Uniform Guidance principals Understanding of audit process; including the ability to prepare audit work papers and of time requirements Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel), accounting software and Quickbooks BS/BA in Accounting, Finance or relevant field is preferred

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

Excellent numerical skills

Ability to multi-task and complete projects in a timely manner under pressure

Knowledge of communities to be served

Well organized with ability to prioritize

Very good Communication and interpersonal skills

Attention to detail and problem-solving ability

Salary

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and includes excellent benefits including medical, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, retirement plan, vacation and personal time.
