Background

Family Independence Program (FIP)

What's Happening?

The Family Independence Agency will be issuing a $40 clothing allowance to all children receiving FIP for August 2004 who are age 4 through 18. For most children receiving FIP for August 2004, the clothing allowance will be added to the family's Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) account between August 3 and August 12, depending on their case number. For individuals whose Family Independence Program (FIP) cases are closed before the date the allowance is to be deposited in their EBT account, FIA will issue a warrant (paper check). For individuals whose FIP cases are opened later in the month, or in September (retroactive to August, FIA will also issue a warrant (check) for the clothing allowance.Children qualify if they are age 4 through 18 at any time during the month of August 2004.Some clothing stores offer discounts to families receiving the FIP clothing allowance. Families will receive a letter from the FIA Director explaining the allowance and the possible availability of discounts.
