Public Benefits Substantive Law

DESCRIPTION

Public Benefits advocacy is becoming more complex as state and federal budgets shrink, procedures change and demand for services grows ever more. At the same time, benefits programs remain the wages and benefits of low income people and constitute the last remaining safety nets. In a very real sense, preserving, protecting, and maximizing these benefits is what makes the greatest difference in the lives of low income people. This training is designed for experienced public benefits advocates (both lawyers and paralegals) who wish to explore new solutions to the problems our clients face as well as learn about emerging areas in the law. Training Agenda 

This training features a mixture of lectures and smaller group sessions where participants can choose the topics of most relevant to their practice. The training will cover a variety of subjects in TANF, Food Stamps, Social Security and Health Law.

We have applied for Ohio CLE credits for this training. CORT is a recognized training sponsor in West Virginia.

The training will take place at Weber's Inn located in Ann Arbor, MI

REGISTRATION FEES

As a CORT-sponsored event, there is no fee for programs participating in CORT.

For registrants from Ohio, Michigan, and West Virginia legal services programs not participating in CORT, the registration fee is the pro-rata share of the cost of the training plus a surcharge of $300. For these participants, the registration fee is $450 ($375 for one day).

For other participants, the registration fee is the pro rata share of the cost of the training plus 20%. For these participants, the registration fee is $180 ($90 for one day).

ROOM AND BOARD

CORT will bill programs for the cost of rooms and meals after the training. The daily cost of sleeping rooms is $87.00. If participants share rooms, CORT will divide the cost of the room by the number of occupants and bill programs accordingly. The approximate daily cost of meals is $50.00. The following meals will be provided: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.
